Candler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is a unit of the Candler County Sheriff’s Office that coordinates the county’s emergency operations. This includes preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to disasters, events. EMA works with state and federal governments, in partnership with the private sector and faith-based community, to prevent and respond to natural and man-made emergencies. T
The Emergency Management Agency is based on the requirements of the Georgia Emergency Management Act of 1981, as amended December 1992. Sheriff John Miles was appointed Director of the Emergency Management Agency in 2018. Captain Justin Wells was appointed Deputy Director by Sheriff Miles in 2018.
The agency's primary responsibilities are to develop and maintain emergency plans, conduct disaster training exercises for all agencies, provide emergency public information, provide awareness and education programs, coordinate area emergency service agencies, and coordinate community warning systems.
Planning, preparation and training are essential when dealing with different types of disasters. EMA develops and maintains a county emergency operations plan to ensure mitigation and preparedness, appropriate response and timely recovery from natural and man-made hazards .
